Good morning, readers! This week’s 40 Great Nail Art Ideas prompt is Aqua or Turquoise. I grabbed one of my favorite aqua indie polishes for this mani, Paint Box Polish Blue Above the Bay. While I love so many Paint Box Polish shades, the North Shore Collection from Summer was fabulous (and still available!). For my nail art, I decided to try gradient stamping over my aqua base and am pretty happy with the result. Last week, I watched this tutorial video by Very Emily on gradient stamping and I have been wanting to try it ever since. I don’t have my MdU stamping polish  yet (anxiously awaiting my order!) but I do have black and white stamping polish and it made a pretty neat gradient effect!Paint Box Polish Blue Above the Bay Stamping Gradient 1-001

  • I began with two coats of Paint Box Polish Blue Above the Bay and let dry.
  • Then, I painted Glisten & Glow CTRL-ALT-DEL peel-able latex barrier around my nails for easier cleanup.
  • Next, I followed the tutorial linked above by dabbing half of the edge of the stamp image with Rica Blackout and the other half with Rica Whiteout and scraping over and over a few times to blend the two colors. The stamp image is from ÜberChic plate ÜC 6-01.
  • Once again, I used my transparent stamper from Girly Bits to stamp the image where I wanted it on the nails.
  • I then peeled off the latex barrier, cleaned up with acetone and my ÜberChic Cleanup Brush, and painted a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top to seal in the design.

What do you think of this design? I was originally going for a smoother gradient of the white blending to grey and then to black, but the scraping caused some streaks and I think I love that effect more! Yay for happy mistakes. Check out what the rest of Crumpet’s Nail Tarts did for Aqua/Turquoise day below.
