Swatch Sunday: Alter Ego Be A Pirate Collection!

Good morning and Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m back with another swatch post this weekend. This time it’s for the latest Alter Ego Be A Pirate Collection! You may remember my pirate nail art mani last week using some of these shades. Now you can see each polish individually.

There are some new things happening with Alter Ego. Previously Alter Ego Nail Enamels, Cynthia has expanded to some more body care products as well as her polish so the name has expanded as well to Alter Ego Body Care Products. The shop has also changed websites, and you can click the ad in my right side bar (don’t forget to use the coupon code!) to be taken to the new shop location. One last change, which is definitely worth mentioning, is that Cynthia switched to using mainstream base for her polishes. They no longer dry matte (of course you can always add a matte topper if you prefer that look) but that means they apply a bit easier as well. Because of the shiny finish, she no longer adds a She Shines top coat in with the orders. However, it is now available as a stand alone product to purchase in the shop! Let’s take a look at the new Be A Pirate Collection below!

Alter Ego She’s Got the Booty
After this gal got her freedom she ran to the treasury, scooping up as much as she could.  Now She’s Got The Booty to guarantee their safe passage home!

I’m showing three sheer coats with with She Shines top coat below. While there is still visible nail line at three coats, I was so happy with this new formula that applied so easily. Over a white base, this would make an awesome neon.

Alter Ego Royal Prisoner of Love
This damsel’s father knew no man can resist his beautiful daughter so he hired a bodyguard to protect her.  Sadly, Papa didn’t know the thug he hired was the King Of Pirate’s right hand man and now Papa’s princess is a Royal Prisoner Of Love!

Alter Ego Rocks the Plank
She stayed behind to make sure her BFF got off the pirate’s boat and was caught 🙁  No fear, it’s a way off the floating hell, and since she may survive, she makes sure she Rocks The Plank in style!  She has to appear subdued and scared but when she steps out she glistens in the sun, letting all the colors of her true self blind the pirates as she gracefully dives into the ocean!

I’m showing three coats below with top coat. The holo glitter causes this to dry slightly textured, so you may want two coats of top coat depending on how thin it is.

Alter Ego Swash Buckler
She lurks in the shadows of the armory, waiting for her chance.  As the jailer passes by, cell keys jingling, our Swashbuckler leaps out, her sword flashing in the light of the lantern!  She makes sure he won’t be rousing to consciousness any time soon then rushes into the brig save her BFF from being sold to the King of Pirates!

This is buildable, but can also be a topper. I’m showing both ways below. First, four built up coats with top coat and then one coat over a white base with top coat.

Alter Ego Beach Comber
Woohoo!  Our fearless heroine survived and while she waits for help has become the most stunning, vibrant and colorful Beachcomber her saviors will ever see!  She spends her time wading in the beautiful blue waters as she waits for them to rescue her!

I’m showing three coats below with top coat. It starts out sheer but builds nicely, allowing the shimmer to shine through. There are very slight visible brush strokes showing with the shimmer.

In addition to the new colors, I received some body care products to try from Alter Ego! A charcoal based Hot Process Soap and a Candy Wrap Lip Balm. (You can see both for a size comparison to the full size bottles at the top of this post.)

Alter Ego Hot Process Soap Bar- Charcoal (Tangerine)
This loaf consists of Charcoal, Coconut Oil, Lard, and Olive Oil.  Charcoal is regarded to be outstanding for oily or acne prone skin but made with these oils should not be as drying as mass manufactured.  I scented it with Tangerine thinking the fresh, clean aroma would balance out the appearance of the color. While not all uniform, each soap bar will be at least 2 oz.

The tangerine scent is mild and not very strong, which is nice. I ended up cutting the cube in half from the top view so I had two smaller rectangles for easier use. This way, I can either keep one half in the shower and the other at the sink, or wrap the second half to save until I run out of the first. I have mainly been using this on my hands as I have a specific face wash routine, but I did try it on my face. It felt very clean when done, but not very tight–which can happen when using soap bars for face. The addition of moisturizing products with the charcoal also left my face feeling soft. It lathered nicely  between my hands as well.

Alter Ego Candy Wrap Lip Balm- Raspberry
When I saw the shape of these lip balm containers I just had to have them!  Pocket/purse size but the unique shape of the ends will make these ez to grab by feel instead of having to search :)Pre-made base, Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil, Jojoaba Wax, Jojoba Oil, Carnuba Wax. Available scents: cherry, french vanilla, limeade, melon, raspberry, strawberry, and tupelo honey.

The container is just the cutest! I love the idea of this shape and I have a feeling my 7 year old, Hailey, will be confiscating this for her own personal use. The raspberry scent is nice but mild.  While I can smell the raspberry in the container, I don’t seem to smell it while I’m wearing it. It is a pretty solid lip balm, so I originally rubbed my finger over it to get it to melt a bit and then applied. This doesn’t give much more than a thin oily wax layer so I actually preferred digging my nail tip across the top layer and applying it that way for a more creamy coverage. I liked wearing it!
