Good afternoon! This week, I received the new Nicole by OPI Seize The Summer Collection and I knew I wanted to try some watermelon nail art using my favorite of the collection: The Coral of the Story. It’s a gorgeous and bright coral creme and is perfect for summer! What says summer better than watermelon? I usually do watermelon nail art with the rind as a french tip, but thought it would be easier to try a “ruffian” style with the rind at the cuticle. This manicure is so simple and uses no nail art skills or tools– just two different regular bottles of polish! Some seed shaped black nail art “stones” were the perfect final step for this look!

For this look:
  • I started out with two coats of OPI Jade Is The New Black and let dry.
  • Next, I used Nicole by OPI The Coral Of The Story and painted my nails as I normally would,  but left a gap between the cuticle and the polish (so the green would still be visible). I’ve seen some people use french nail tip guides flipped over to tape off the cuticle color, but I found it much easier to just paint the second color on. It wasn’t completely opaque over the darker color so I did a second coat.
  • Once dry, I pained a generous coat of Seche Vite top coat one nail at a time and quickly applied my seed shaped decorations with a toothpick onto the wet top coat. (My secret for application: I lick the tip of a toothpick and press it onto the stone so it picks it up). Definitely do this process of top coat and immediate stone application one nail at a time.

What do you think? Very simple but everyone can tell they are watermelons! I was glad to see I had these black accessories because I wasn’t happy with my attempt at using a dotting tool for seeds on my first try. I got them in a 3D nail art accessory kid similar to this one on amazon!
I will have the entire Nicole by OPI Seize The Summer swatch post up by the end of the week so you can see the other three polishes! Thanks so much for reading!

So adorable and yet not over-the-top cutesy. Love them!! You're amazing at painting, I would need a guide to get such a great line between colors. And using a coral-red instead of pink-red is very attractive.

  3. Cyan

Wow! This is so adorable! (And now I finally have a use for those funky shaped rhinestones, so thank you!)
