Hello, readers! I’m all caught up on swatches so no Swatch Saturday post today. Instead, I’m going to show you what’s currently on my nails for the weekend!
During Picture Polish Blogfest, I ran across this tutorial for a “saran wrap” technique by The Polishaholic. It’s different than I’ve done it in the past (painting a full nail with a second color and then dabbing with crumpled saran wrap to show the bottom color through.) and it creates a really cool effect when you throw in multiple colors.
So that’s what I decided to do for my base color. Then, because I’m lusting after the Nailz Craze butterfly image stamp plate design lately (I just need to order it already and save myself the hour it took to do this full mani freehanded haha), I tried to recreate it with a skinny striper brush over my saran wrap base color.
Here’s how I did the base:
- I painted 2 coats of Zoya Yummy and then topped with a quick dry top coat.
- Once that was dry, I followed the tutorial I linked above and dabbed randomly over the nail with China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle, China Glaze Neon & On & On, OPI You’re Such A Budapest, and Zoya Yummy. I only did one nail at a time so the blobs don’t dry before the next step.
- Then, while they were still wet, I took a crumpled piece of saran wrap and dabbed it all over the nail repeatedly until I got the effect and mixture of colors that I was happy with.
- One coat of Seche Vite to smooth it out and that way I could do my freehand butterfly wing design in black.
- I used the same piece of crumpled saran wrap for all of my nails.
- After the black design, I took a small dotting tool and Milani Silver Stilettos to add some dots.
- Another coat of Seche Vite to protect it.

I really love this saran wrap technique as your base. I'm going to have to give it a try for nail art I've been brainstorming a base for..
Love your saran wrap nails ♡
amazing!
I adore this look, it's SO pretty! You are super talented!
I love it… Very pretty!
Beautiful – butterfly wings are on my list of things to try 🙂
Amazing manicure! I like it! (:
That is so beautiful. I like it better with the blue and hint of pink than the traditional yellow/orange/black combo. I have never tried a saran wrap mani before. There is just never enough time for all the manis I want to do.
I have that stamp from Nail Craze, and let me tell you, it is FABULOUS!
Very pretty!
gorgeous <3
This manicure is just stunning. I really love the opal look you got with the colors. You did the lines by hand? You don't even need stamping plates!
Your freehand was just as good as the plate, if not better 🙂
wow this is so beautiful. the background is so deep, i love it!
Your saran wrap looks gorgeous!
That's beautiful! Great idea for the saran-technique, hadn't seen it done quite that way before. I love it!
This is amazing, I relly love this mani!
