Summer Nail Art: Beach Ball Half Moons!

Good morning! Is Summer in full swing where you are? It definitely is here, we’ve been spending our weekends out on the boat at the sand bar, or in our pool and it’s lovely! I was trying to come up with some kind of summer nail art and as my kids were throwing beach balls around the house yesterday, it hit me! (Okay, a ball didn’t literally hit me, but the idea did.) Partial beach balls with the illusion of a half moon mani! These weren’t too difficult so expect a tutorial for the next Tutorial Tuesday post!

Here’s how I did it:
  • I applied two coats of Illamasqua Noble and then topped with a coat of Seche Vite quick drying top coat. I let that dry for about an hour.
  • Once I was convinced that they were dry enough, I grabbed some half moon mani Sticky Nails Guides and applied them closer to the tip that I would for a regular half moon mani. I wanted about half the nail to be blue and half the beach ball. I pressed the sticker guides down carefully but firmly.
  • Then, one nail at a time, I painted a coat of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls on the half of the nail closest to the cuticle up to the nail guide. While still wet, I used tweezers and carefully peeled up the guide to reveal the white “half moon.” I let this dry before moving on.
  • The red part of the ball: OPI Over & Over A-Gwen. The blue part of the ball: Barry M Gelly Blue Grape. The yellow part of the ball: OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana. I alternated colors on each nail and drew the sections of the balls, leaving the white areas “blank.”
  • Once I was happy with the colored sections of the balls, I used my nail art brush and OPI Black Onyx to outline the ball and different sections on the ball.
  • Seche Vite was used as top coat to seal in the design.

What do you think? Fun and summery, or too silly to wear on your own nails? Are you looking forward to my tutorial next week? Thanks so much for reading!
