Hello, readers! I had such great feedback from last week’s Vintage nail art, so thank you for taking the time to comment! I decided to go with the design easiest to recreate out of the five for this tutorial: Raggedy Ann. I also had someone request this design for a tutorial, so it seemed to be the best plan.
Here is a sneak peek at the step by step, you will see full sized pictures and step by step instructions further down in this post:
Here is a refresher if you didn’t get to see this design posted last week:
Let’s get started!
What you will need for this tutorial:
Polishes used: Zoya Chantal, OPIs Over & Over A-Gwen, Black Onyx, My Boyfriend Scales Walls, and Kiss Me I’m Brazilian.
Tools used: Short striper, thin striper or detail brush (this one is 18/0 Script and I just got it at Michaels this weekend for only a few dollars! And I LOVE it so far!), tiny dotting tool, small dotting tool, large dotting tool.
Step 1) Use Zoya Chantal and paint on an oval a little over half way up the nail. You may need to do two coats for full coverage. Let dry. (I don’t use an art brush, just the normal bottle brush)
Step 2) Use your short striping brush and OPI Over & Over A-Gwen to start making short lines all around the head.
Step 3) Continue repeating the short lines from Step 2 all around the head until there is no space between the “hair.” Make sure you go in closer at the bottom to create the look of a neck.
Step 4) Use OPI Black Onyx and your large dotting tool to make two large dots for the eyes. Try to keep them as close in size to each other as possible.
Step 5) Use your thin striper brush and OPI Black Onyx to paint two thin eyebrows over the eyes.
Step 6) Using that same thin striper and OPI Black Onyx, paint 4 lower eyelashes on both eyes.
Step 7) Use your tiny dotting tool (or even a toothpick) and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls to make two smaller eye shine dots inside of the black ones.
Step 8) Use the thin striper brush and OPI Over & Over A-Gwen to do the nose. It’s a tall, narrow, rounded bottom triangle.
Step 9) Using the same thin striper brush and OPI Over & Over A-Gwen, paint a small sideways oval mouth below the nose for the lips.
Step 10) Use your thin striper brush and OPI Black Onyx to paint two curved lines on each side of the lips for the smile lines.
Step 11) Lastly, use OPI Kiss Me I’m Brazilian and your small dotting tool to make “rosy cheeks” close to the mouth smile lines.
And because Google+ wanted to give me a heart attack again, they automatically turned steps 5-11 into this moving gif. A bit creepy, no?
Don’t forget to add a thick, quick drying top coat to protect and seal in your design! I prefer Seche Vite, H K Girl Top Coat, or Poshe. Put a thick bead of top coat on the brush and gently spread it toward the tips and sides, taking great care to not let the bristles touch the polish underneath. Thinner top coats can cause streaking or bleeding of the colors and the bristles drag lines through the design. YOU’RE DONE!

Super cute. I used to have these dolls when I was little.
Ah, childhood memories!!! These are awesome!
I will have to do these. I still have the Raggedy Ann I was given when I was 4. At some point I used lip gloss to give her make-up. She's still tucked away safe. Love it!
